As our community’s needs change and grow, so do we. We create innovative solutions to save and improve the lives of pets and their people in our northern Nevada community and beyond. We know in our hearts that animals enrich our lives as well as make our community a better place to live, and many studies support the benefits from the human-animal bond. Pet guardianship is not a privilege. It’s a human right and a necessity for the greater good of all northern Nevadans.
SPCA of Northern Nevada is here to support our entire community and their beloved pets.
We focus a lot of time and energy finding loving homes for the pets in our care. But equally important, we help them thrive in their new, loving homes. So we also focus on support services for adopted pets and their pet parents. Additionally, we sometimes get animals in who aren’t quite ready for adoption due to behavior issues. When this is the case, we put them on a robust behavior modification plan, helping them cope and develop the skills they need to become a loving adoptable pet.
Our community relies on our affordable veterinary services to keep their pets happy and healthy. In 2022, nearly 4,000 pets were sterilized and 10,660 pets were vaccinated!
We are so much more than simply an Adoption Center. We provide an affordable community spay and neuter clinic which is incredibly important to help keep sheltering populations down by preventing unwanted litters. We know from research and studies that pets who are spayed or neutered live longer, healthier lives.
In 2022, our innovative Todd’s Medical Fund directly impacted 445 families, offering financial assistance to pets whose guardians could not afford surgeries or vet care.
Our rural rescue partners are a combination of municipal, city and county animal shelters, as well as small rescue groups who are truly doing everything they can to support their communities. Through no fault of their own, they often find themselves at capacity and out of space at their facilities. That’s where we come in and support them by transferring animals to our Adoption Center in Reno, which has a higher adoption demand.
For all of these reasons, the funds raised this Spring 2023 are critically important to our ability to continue saving and improving the lives of pets and their people throughout northern Nevada.
