In January, our team transferred several homeless pets from a nearby shelter partner to our Adoption Center. Ray of Sunshine was one of those homeless pets. This beautiful, sweet three-year-old cat took a little time to warm up, but with patience from our team, he slowly started to trust us, becoming curious and well-adjusted to his new environment.

Ray of Sunshine was born blind due to severe micropthalmia of both eyes. When he arrived to our clinic, they were sadly still intact, which could lead to infection or cancer.

Having been born with an eye deformity causing blindness, our veterinarians performed the much-needed surgery Ray of Sunshine desperately needed, reducing his risk for infection or cancer later in life. Ray of Sunshine recovered well from his procedure, and his personality began to blossom! Because of his blindness, our animal care team made special accommodations to his room and daily enrichment while he waited to be adopted.

And just a few weeks ago, Ray of Sunshine finally met his new loving family.

Today, he continues to inspire us all with his outgoing, affectionate personality! His guardians tell us he is thriving, and you would never know he was blind; playing and exploring just like any other cat. He gets along with his fur-sibling, Ruby, another special needs cat who was adopted from us just last year in Fall 2022!
