This past November, our team traveled to a rural shelter in northern Nevada. There was Hobbes. Affectionate and gentle, at just 11 weeks old, he had spent most of his life living in pain. Hobbes was surrendered with what appeared to be a severely broken leg. But without the resources to provide medical care for him, Hobbes’ future at their shelter looked bleak.
When they reached out asking our help to care for Hobbes, our team didn’t hesitate.
Our veterinarians determined Hobbes had a comminuted fracture that had been left untreated for weeks by his previous owners. After careful consideration by our veterinarians and clinic staff, in order to give Hobbes the absolute best outcome to live a healthy and pain-free life he deserved, our skilled veterinary team determined amputation was the best option for Hobbes.
Hobbes’ surgery and recovery was a success!
And just two days before Thanksgiving, Hobbes was adopted, and able to spend his first holiday season with a loving family in his new home in Reno! Today, Hobbes is a happy, healthy and playful eight-month-old puppy who (for the first time in his life) knows the meaning of a loving family! If not for donations from generous supporters like you, we wouldn’t be able to do the work we do. And Hobbes’ story would have had a much different ending.
