Spring into Saving Lives
What we DO matters. What you GIVE matters.
At SPCA of Northern Nevada, every pet’s success story is made possible through a series of intentional programs — from lifesaving transports and medical care to adoption and ongoing community support.
This spring, we’re bringing you closer to that work by sharing the real stories behind how pets are rescued, cared for, and placed into loving homes, as well as how we support pets already in homes through affordable services like spay/neuter, vaccines, and veterinary assistance.
During our Spring Into Saving Lives campaign, every gift goes twice as far. From May 1 through May 31, donations are MATCHED dollar-for-dollar, helping us rescue, care for, and support pets across northern Nevada.
Be part of what makes these stories possible. Give today and help save lives.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the process for adopting a cat from the SPCA of Northern Nevada?
To adopt a cat, visit the Adoption Center open daily from 11 PM to 6 PM. The adoption process includes meeting adoptable cats, consulting with matchmakers to ensure a good fit, and completing the necessary paperwork.
What are the adoption fees for cats?
Adoption fees vary based on the cat’s age:
- Kittens (less than 6 months): $80
- Adult Cats (6 months – 7 years): $30
- Senior Cats (over 7 years): $20
Discounts on adult pets are available for seniors, active military, veterans, and Nevada teachers.
What is included in the cat adoption fee?
The adoption fee includes spaying/neutering, vaccinations, microchipping, a medical examination, and completed medical care.
Can I place a hold on a cat I'm interested in adopting?
Adoption applications are processed in person on a first-come, first-considered basis. A two-hour potential Adoption (PA) hold can be placed after meeting the pet if the interested adopter needs to get their pets and or children (excluding kittens).
Are there any requirements for adopting a cat?
Adopters must be at least 18 years old, complete an adoption application, and provide a photo ID with a current address.
What should I consider before adopting a cat?
Consider your lifestyle, expectations, and ability to meet the cat’s needs. Questions to ask yourself include:
- What is my motivation to adopt this cat?
- What are my expectations for my new companion?
- Is my home and lifestyle a good fit for this cat?
- How much time and effort can I set aside for a new pet?
- Am I prepared to take on any special needs the cat may have?
What support is available after adopting a cat?
The SPCA of Northern Nevada offers post-adoption support through our help desk line, online resources, and sometimes through post-adoption behavioral consultations. Online resources include the Pet Behavior Help section and the Pet Education and Resources hub.
Can I return a cat if the adoption doesn't work out?
The SPCA of Northern Nevada makes a lifetime commitment to their animals and will always take them back, regardless of the circumstances. If you adopted your pet from the SPCA of Northern Nevada (SPCA-NN), you may return your pet to us during our normal hours of operation. To help us better understand your pet, please complete the appropriate Pet Surrender Profile Form (Dog or Cat) and bring it with you when you visit the Adoption Center.
