Open, Heart-Centered Adoptions

At SPCA of Northern Nevada, we believe every great adoption starts with a friendly conversation. We take time to get to know each potential adopter—their home, lifestyle, and what kind of pet they’re hoping to welcome. Then, we do our best to match them with a cat or dog who will thrive with them.

This thoughtful approach gives both the pet and their new family the best chance at a happy, healthy life together. Every pet is unique, just like every person, and we’re here to help build strong, loving bonds.

We welcome everyone in our community to adopt. No matter your background, income, or experience, we’re here to support you! We believe that when people are treated with kindness and respect, they’re more likely to succeed as pet parents—and that means more happy homes for homeless pets.

Adoption Process

We’re so excited to help you find your new family member! To ensure the best match for both you and your future pet, please plan to spend 1–2 hours with us. This allows time to meet with a Matchmaker, get to know our adoptable pets, and complete all necessary paperwork. We want this to be a thoughtful, joyful experience—and we’re here to support you every step of the way!

1. Arrive Prepared

Visit our website to see our available pets. For some dog adoptions, if you have a dog or child at home, we may require a staff supervised meet-and-greet before adoption.

2. Speak With a Matchmaker

Our Matchmakers are trained to learn about your household, lifestyle, and pet expectations to help you find the right pet for your home.

3. Complete Paperwork

You’ll review the adoption contract, medical records, and pet specifics with a Matchmaker. We can also answer any questions you may have about bringing your pet home. We're here to support you after adoption too! Please call our Pet Help Line with any questions: (775)324-7773, ext 200.
