Thank you so much for your interest in becoming a Volunteer with the SPCA of Northern Nevada! We are always in need of dedicated and passionate Volunteers. The FIRST step to becoming a Volunteer with us is registering under “New Volunteer Registration”. The second step is to watch our online Orientation Video and complete the quiz so you can learn a little bit more about our organization and what it is we do and what opportunities are available to you as a Volunteer. Once you’ve completed that you just now have to decide HOW you would like to help.
If you’d like to work directly with our animals you’ll need to sign up for an upcoming training for either cats or dogs under “Training Registration”. Once you’ve completed that training you’re able to come up to our shelter and volunteer 7 days a week anytime between 7am to 6:30pm. Our cat and dog socializers help give our animals lots of love and attention during their time here at the shelter so that they can be happy and healthy as they await their forever homes.
Once you’ve trained to work directly with our

If you’re a social butterfly and would love to be a representative of our organization at events in the community you may consider helping with special events! We are always in need of Volunteers to help us table at fun local events and educate people about our mission and our animals. We also host big Adoption Events to help adopt out as many animals as we can in fun new venues and we couldn’t do it without Volunteers help.
If you’re interested in our Foster Care Program you’ll want to contact Tara, our Foster Care Coordinator, to complete the Foster specific application, interview, and training. Take a mama cat or a litter of puppies into your home for a short period of time to give them a safe place away from the shelter environment to give birth or to stay until they’re old enough to be adopted.
If you’re interested in helping with our low cost Vaccine Clinic then you’ll want to contact Nayla directly. Our Volunteers run this extra special program to help keep the pets in our community happy and healthy all year round. It is a monthly commitment volunteer opportunity and each volunteer must dedicate at least 2 days a month to helping with Vaccine Clinic. Vaccine Clinics are held every Saturday and Sunday from 11am-3pm and every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 5-7pm.
If you’re interested in helping staff with their day to day care of the animals and of the facility from helping cleaning their kennels to doing dishes, sweeping, mopping, feeding and keeping our facility looking its best please reach out to Nayla and she’ll help get you started. Staff is always in need of helping hands!
If you’re a student and don’t have time to Volunteer in between all of that library time-don’t fret! We have a Study with a Buddy program where you can study with our kitty cats in our colonies while at the same time accumulating volunteer hours. Please contact Nayla for more information and/or to set up a quick orientation.
Court-Ordered Community Service is a completely separate volunteer program so if you have a minor traffic violation or DUI that you need to complete hours for then please call Nayla directly at 775-324-7773 x208.
Other volunteer opportunities are always presenting themselves so if none of the above is what you were looking for please don’t hesitate to reach out to Nayla for more information and/or options.
Thank you and we’re excited to have you on our Volunteer team!
