Associate Veterinarian

This position supports our lifesaving mission by caring for and providing the best and safest veterinary care to our animals so they can be ready for their new loving homes.

A Little About the Position:

Are you passionate about tackling pet overpopulation and supporting rescue, adoption, and top-quality medical care for homeless pets? 

The SPCA of Northern Nevada is a private, pro-pet and pro-people adoption center for homeless dogs and cats with a live release rate of 97%. 

We are looking for a high-quality, high-volume (HQHV) surgeon with animal shelter experience to join our passionate and growth-minded team. We offer much-needed affordable veterinary services to our community and are looking for a full-time veterinarian to perform approximately 25 spay/neuters per HQHV surgery day.

The perfect candidate for this role will also have strong medical skills and be excited about having input on shelter protocols and keeping on top of veterinary trends. 

We support our veterinarians by providing flexible scheduling, competitive pay, a stipend and PTO for continuing education (CE), paid professional dues and annual license renewal fees, health benefits (including life, dental, and vision), 13 paid holidays plus generous PTO and sick time, 3 days paid personal pet bereavement, and free pet food, treats and cat litter.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide compassionate care to patients with experience of Fear Free techniques.
  • Dedicated to a shelter medicine best practices.
  • Able to collaborate in a veterinary team environment.
  • Able and willing to work in a busy and fast-paced environment.
  • Assist in the establishment and improvement of procedures and protocols.
  • Build effective relationships through positive interaction and communication with the community, volunteers, and staff.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Advocate the humane treatment of animals and be able to transmit these values to others.

Requirements:

  • Positive, professional, and team-oriented perspective.
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
  • Experience in shelter medicine.
  • Current State of Nevada veterinary license (please include with your application, along with copies of any disciplinary actions taken in the state of NV or elsewhere).
  • Current controlled substance license preferred, but at least in good standing to submit application for DEA license upon hiring.
  • Ability to perform an average of 25 medical exams, treatments, or surgeries per day.
  • Ability to appropriately handle routine medical/surgical rechecks and emergency situations.
  • Able to maintain clear, respectful communication with internal staff on all levels.

Job Type: Full-time position. $95,000 – $120,000 Annual Salary
