Veterinary Assistant

This role is a unique opportunity for a Veterinary Assistant to take on a variety of responsibilities and grow their skill set. Because we legally own the animals we care for, our Assistants take on many of the same duties as our Technicians. We encourage ongoing development and a rotation of responsibilities so that the entire team is exposed to all clinic operations. This is a perfect fit for anyone looking to learn new skills and grow with our organization as they advance in their veterinary career.
Our shelter veterinarians are teaching-oriented and excited about Assistants who want to learn the details about special cases. We perform a high volume of surgeries and are a tight-knit team of honest and candid communicators. We offer an annual stipend for scrubs and many other perks to promote a healthy work environment.
Responsibilities Include:
- Providing excellent care to our patients during surgery including surgical prep, anesthetic monitoring, and recovery.
- Cleaning and sterilizing instruments, equipment, and tools.
- Ensuring the clinic and surgical suite is stocked and ready for use at all times.
- Ensuring all cages and kennels are clean at all times.
- Administering medications, including injectables.
- Taking x-rays.
- Speaking with foster parents, owners, and new adopters.
- Assisting in collecting samples such as urine, fecal matter, and blood.
- Running blood work in our IDEXX machines, ordering tests to be sent to the IDEXX laboratory.
- Entering surgery notes, exams, and prepping medications to go home.
- Assisting in Fear Free methods of restraint during exams, blood draws, and radiographs (training provided).
Job Type: Full-time position is 40 hours/week, 1 weekend day preferred. $15-$17/hour
