Toph was just one month old when she arrived at SPCA of Northern Nevada. She was born in a ranching household as a working dog. When they realized Toph was blind, they wanted her matched with the right loving home where she could thrive as herself. So they brought her to us.
Toph was born with undeveloped eyes. Even though she couldn’t see, she was very confident and curious about the world! She used her other heightened senses to explore her surroundings. Her nose helped her navigate while her ears picked up all the engaging sounds around her. She occasionally bumped into things, but she never missed a beat!

She was immediately placed in foster care, where she received the one-on-one training she needed while learning how to navigate home life. Over the next several weeks, multiple loving foster families helped guide her through early puppyhood, each falling for her playful spirit and sweet determination.
Toph adjusted beautifully to every home. She charmed people, dogs, and cats alike. She even learned to potty outside, rest in a crate, and engage in all the important puppy pastimes—like digging in the yard and playing an adorably fierce game of tug.
Toph’s story isn’t over just yet—it’s only just beginning.
Though she couldn’t see, she sensed she was loved! She’d tilt her head at every sound, her expression soft with trust, as if to say, “I am so grateful for you.”

She remains in foster care, where she’s getting exactly what she needs: close monitoring, calm guidance, and plenty of playtime with her foster siblings (including a certain cleft-lipped pup you might know named Groot).
