Bugaboo was found as an unclaimed stray right here in Washoe County. Despite suffering from a severe case of mange, this sweet, 6-month-old puppy was still in good spirits. Since she was picked up as a stray, no one knew how this friendly, adorable pup ended up homeless and in such rough shape. The caring team at Washoe County Regional Animal Services (WCRAS) was desperately seeking an adoption partner for Bugaboo to give her a chance to heal and find LOVE.
Our team at SPCA-NN was already scheduled to pick up a few other dogs from WCRAS, and as soon as we saw Bugaboo lying quietly in her kennel with her affectionate, brown eyes, we knew we just had to bring her back to our Adoption Center! Immediately excited to meet us, Bugaboo was ready to take on her next adventure. She was trotting happily down the hallway as if she already knew she was headed to the happy ending she deserved.
When our partners at WCRAS asked us to help Bugaboo, we took her into our care without hesitation.
While in our care, our vet med team thoroughly examined Bug and quickly acted with antibiotics, consistent medicated baths, and of course lots of extra tender love and care — she immediately became a team favorite! It wasn’t long before Bug’s skin began healing, allowing her fur to stage a comeback. She was becoming a healthy, happy puppy!
Bugaboo went on many adventures while waiting for her loving home. Adventures to the news, the SPCA-NN Thrift Store, and even a few day trips and sleepovers with our wonderful volunteers. Bug made so many new friends along the way and was quickly loved by everyone she encountered. But, despite her loving personality and healing body, Bug waited… and waited for someone to take her home. And we waited with her… never wavering in our patient commitment to her. No matter how long it took.
Bugaboo was becoming a healthy and happy puppy! Yet she was passed for adoption time and time again…
Finally, one day, her perfect match came and swept Bugaboo off into a woofderful Tahoe adventure life! “It’s been so fun watching Rana (formerly Bugaboo) gain confidence, become more coordinated, and embrace her fun new life & new doggie pals! And in turn, bring so much joy into my life!” says her adopter who absolutely adores her new best friend.
