Spring is officially here and it’s the time of year we like to stretch our legs, find fun ways to get fit and be healthy, and enjoy the great outdoor experiences our region has to offer! Recently we sat down with SPCA volunteer Brett and talked to him about a very cool way he is choosing to help the homeless pets at the SPCA. Brett is an active guy who enjoys running, skiing, hiking and other outdoor adventures and wanted to give back to the community. He decided to come donate his love of running outside to some of our more active adobtables – like Luke, the Hound Dog.
We tagged along for one of Brett’s runs and then caught up with him after to find out what it’s like to run with the dogs that are yearning for outdoor activity, first-hand.

Here at the SPCA of Northern Nevada we are very lucky to be surrounded by great open spaces that already have some nice hiking and running trails pre-made. Since we are located just off the freeway we are still convenient to get to but we don’t have next door neighbors and instead of being surrounded by pavement and parking lots, we are surrounded by the beauty of Northern Nevada with the sagebrush and pines. The Adoption Center is nestled right into the hills. In short, our facility is smack-dab in the center of a jogger’s dream. The terrain is dirt so it’s easier on your knees and the windy walkways provide for ideal elevation changes for training outdoors. If running isn’t your thing, the paths are still fantastic and offer great views of Reno and the mountains.
