Imagine spending eight joyful years with your favorite humans, only to suddenly find yourself alone in an unfamiliar kennel—scared, confused, and yearning for the comfort of home.

This was the heart-wrenching reality for Pi when his family could no longer care for him.

Pi had lost his loving family and was now surrounded by his biggest fear: other dogs. When he was a young puppy, another dog attacked Pi which caused him to shrink in fear at the sound or scent of other dogs.

Pi struggled to adjust. Some days, his fear was so crippling that he refused to leave his room. It was hard to witness, but we believed in Pi. We promised him we would do whatever it took to help him build confidence and find the loving home he deserved.

For months, Pi struggled to adjust. Some days, his fear was so crippling, he refused to leave his room.

Pi began his healing journey with the help of our professional Behavior Modification (B-Mod) program, designed to help homeless pets build confidence, trust others, and learn healthy ways to navigate the world around them. Through the B-Mod program, 21 pets like Pi have received vital support this year, giving them the tools to thrive in loving homes.

Our team worked with Pi for eight months, offering gentle encouragement and trust-building activities. With every treat and kind gesture, we chipped away at his fear, showing him that the world could be a safe, welcoming place. We learned that Pi LOVED spending time outside with his favorite toy – a jolly ball. Whether he was herding it, chewing it, or just lying by it, Pi could entertain himself for hours.

Our team slowly gained his trust, watching him grow more relaxed and playful each day. Surely, he would find a loving home soon!

Through the B-Mod program, 21 pets like Pi have received vital support this year, giving them the tools to thrive in loving homes.

But just as Pi started to blossom, construction started next door, and his progress vanished. The loud sounds terrified him, leaving him too afraid to leave his room, again.

Despite the setback, our commitment never wavered. Our dedicated, professionally trained staff and volunteers continued to patiently work with him, helping him regain confidence. Gradually, Pi began to open up—his tail wagging with excitement at the sight of familiar faces, eagerly venturing out for walks, joyfully playing outside, and even learning new tricks.

Moreover, Pi entered foster care where he found a quiet, peaceful environment that allowed him to relax and make meaningful progress on his B-Mod training.

One day, John visited the Adoption Center to meet Pi. But Pi, still nervous around new people stayed back, his eyes saying, “I’m not ready.”

So John came back the next day. And the day after that.

For weeks, he visited Pi daily, giving him time, space, and patience to feel secure. Pi began walking and playing outside with John, always following Pi’s lead. John even left personal items with his scent, allowing Pi to familiarize himself and ensure they formed a trusting bond.

Finally, after weeks of steady dedication, Pi approached John and accepted a gentle pet.

After 245 days of waiting, Pi chose his person.

Today, John tells us that he and Pi are inseparable.

Pi now spends his days roaming John’s property, chasing his beloved balls, and even traveling the country.

Together, they’ve visited 32 states—each step of their journey spent together!
