Spring into Saving Lives 2022

Give Pets and People a Bright Future

Whether it’s a tiny kitten in need of lifesaving treatment, an overwhelmed pet parent who asks for help, or a malnourished puppy who requires critical care, your generosity enables us to save and improve the lives of pets and people in our community.

With your help, programs like Todd’s Medical Fund, foster care, rural rescue transport, access to affordable vet care, and more save pets and help the people who love them.

We Need Your Financial Support To Save Lives.

Right now, your gift will go TWICE as far to give pets the help they deserve.

From May 2 through May 22, every gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a generous, anonymous donor.

Our match goal is $50,000, and we know we can reach it with your help!

Please give today to provide bright, loving futures to pets and people in our community. Between now and May 22, your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar, doubling the impact of your generosity.

Giving Tuesday 2021

Whether it’s a partner shelter at capacity, a pet parent who needs financial assistance to save their best friend, fire evacuation, or a furry friend who needs a new loving home after their guardian’s health declines – our community counts on us, and we are honored to offer a helping hand…or paw.

But we can’t do it without your financial support.

This fall, a group of generous donors has offered a match of up to $50,000 in life-saving funds!

This is our biggest match yet and we need your help to reach our goal.

Please give between now and Giving Tuesday, November 30, and your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar, doubling the impact of your generosity.

Foster Care

Open your heart and home

Ready for one of the most rewarding experiences of your life?

As a foster volunteer you may provide care and shelter to kittens, nursing cats or dogs, and pets with special medical or behavioral needs until they are ready to move onto the next phase of finding a loving home!

become a foster

What types of homeless pets need fostering and why?

  • Pregnant and nursing moms with babies
  • Kittens (sometimes puppies)
  • Recovering pets (cats or dogs that are healing from surgery or treatment)
  • Shy/anxious pets (those that struggle in the shelter setting and would do better in a home)

What do I need to become a foster?

Becoming a foster parent is fast, easy and a lot of FUN! Here’s what you need to do:

  • Your pets must be spayed/neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations
  • Permission from your landlord to have pets OR own your home
  • Reliable transportation to and from the SPCA of Northern Nevada to keep regular re-vaccination appointments and to address any medical issues that may arise

Don’t worry, we will provide you with all the equipment and knowledge you need to help your foster pets thrive! You’ll be a pro before you know it. Not to mention a literal life-saver.

Fostering 101

We need your help during kitten season!

In the Spring and Summer months, we will see an influx of kittens, many of them not old enough to leave their mothers. We will utilize foster homes to care for orphaned kittens, whole litters separated from their mother and mother cats with their litters. Foster parents will provide care for the kittens until they reach 2 lbs., a necessary weight requirement to have the spay/neuter surgery.
