Giving Tuesday 2025
What We DO Matters. What You GIVE Matters.
Every day, more pets and families are turning to us for help. Rural shelters are at capacity, veterinary costs continue to climb, and families facing hardship are struggling to afford even basic care for their beloved companions.
That’s where we come in.
From complex medical cases and lifesaving surgeries to emergency rescue transports and community support programs, SPCA of Northern Nevada is here to provide the compassion and care that pets and their people need most.
But we can’t do it without you.
This year, a group of generous donors has offered to match up to $70,000—our biggest match yet! Your gift will go twice as far, helping us reach our $140,000 Giving Tuesday goal and making twice the impact for homeless pets in need.
Your generosity ensures that we can continue saying “yes” when others can’t—bringing hope, healing, and second chances to pets across northern Nevada and beyond.
We are so much more than an adoption center. We’re a lifeline for pets, people, and the community we love.
While some of the pets we feature in our stories arrive with injuries or illnesses, these special cases represent only a small portion of the hundreds of healthy, happy dogs and cats who come through our doors each year. We share their stories to show the incredible dedication of our veterinary and care teams—and to highlight the lifesaving impact our supporters make possible for every animal who needs us.
Because of you, every pet—whether healing or healthy—gets a real chance at love. This Giving Tuesday, your compassion goes twice as far with dollar-for-dollar matching all November long. Together, we’re saving lives right here in northern Nevada. 💜
YOU made a life-changing difference for these pets. Please make a gift to help even more pets in need get the love and care they deserve!

Reading with Rescues
Read to Homeless Dogs
Twice a month, we partner with a local literary specialist, The Reading Gal, for Reading with Rescues! Participants in this special program get a full tour of our Adoption Center and have the kennels all to themselves for a reading session with our dogs. All ages are welcome!
Reading with Rescues is a wonderful opportunity for our community to engage with our animals, give kids a chance to sharpen their reading skills in front of a nonjudgmental audience, and provide much-needed one-on-one time with our pups (you won’t believe how much it calms them!).
Are you a member of a community group that would like to learn more about our organization and read to our homeless pets? You can email the Community Engagement and Volunteer Manager at nayla@spcanevada.org about setting up a private tour and informal reading with rescues session!
Upcoming Reading with Rescues
*Registration opens on the Tuesday before each event!
December: 18th
READING WITH RESCUES

Our December 8th Reading with Rescues event is currently FULL, and registration is now closed! Please join our newsletter to be the first to hear about our NEXT Reading with Rescues happening on December 18th, 2025.
Spring into Saving Lives 2025
What We DO Matters. What You GIVE Matters.
At SPCA of Northern Nevada, our dedicated team goes above and beyond every day to help pets and the people who love them. But we can’t do it alone—we need YOU.
Whether it’s a tiny kitten in need of lifesaving treatment, a malnourished puppy who requires critical care, or an overwhelmed pet parent asking for help, your generosity enables us to save and improve the lives of pets and people in our community.
We need your support to continue caring for pets who’ve been desperately waiting for help AND sustain vital community programs like Todd’s Medical Fund, foster care, rural rescue efforts, affordable veterinary services, and more.
YOU Make Our Lifesaving Work Possible
During our Spring into Saving Lives Fundraiser, your gift will go TWICE as far to give pets the help they deserve.
From May 1 through May 31, every gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a generous, anonymous donor.
Our match goal is $50,000, and we know we can reach it with your help!
Please give today to provide bright, loving futures to pets and people in our community. Between May 1 and May 31, your gift will be MATCHED dollar-for-dollar, doubling the impact of your generosity.

Pet Food Assistance
Pet Food Karma Boxes Partnership
SPCA of Northern Nevada (SPCA-NN) is proud to collaborate with Washoe County Regional Animal Services (WCRAS) and Res-Que to increase access to free pet food for local families. By combining our resources and expertise, we’re able to support more pet parents in keeping their beloved companions happy, healthy, and at home—especially during times of need.
This partnership is one more way we’re working together to build a stronger, more compassionate community for pets and the people who love them.

How It Works
Thanks to a strong community partnership, this program turns donated pet food into direct support for families in need. Here’s how we work together to make it happen:
-
Collect & Deliver
SPCA of Northern Nevada gathers donated pallets of pet food and delivers them to WCRAS.
-
Repackage
WCRAS staff and volunteers sort and rebag the bulk food into smaller, easy-to-carry portions.
-
Pick Up & Stock
Res-Que volunteers collect batches of these bags (about 20 at a time) and stock them in their handmade Karma Boxes.
-
Access & Support
Pet parents in need find a nearby Karma Box (see map below), take what they need, and keep their pets fed and healthy.
This collaboration expands access to pet food for even more pets and families in need throughout our community. Together, we’re ensuring more pets stay fed, healthy, and with the people who love them.
Pet Karma Box Locations
Looking to find a Karma Box near you? This map from WCRAS shows the current locations of Res-Que’s handmade Karma Boxes, where free pet food is available to those in need.

Shelter Feeding Program
At SPCA of Northern Nevada, we believe every pet deserves a full belly and a chance to thrive. That’s why we created the Shelter Feeding Program—a vital resource for our rural shelter partners. Each week, we distribute donated pet food to help these shelters care for homeless pets in their communities.
Partner organizations visit our Adoption Center to pick up the food they need most, ensuring the pets in their care receive consistent, nutritious meals. For many, this program is a lifeline, providing food they wouldn’t otherwise have.
By sharing the generosity of our community, the Shelter Feeding Program strengthens the animal welfare network across northern Nevada and beyond. Together, we’re making sure no pet is left hungry.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our food provider partners—including Walmart, PetSmart, and Petco—who supply the majority of the food we share. Scratched or dented boxes, torn bags, and surplus stock that might otherwise go to waste are now helping feed pets at more than 40 small shelters and rescues. Their support is vital in making this lifesaving work possible.
How You Can Help
Your support makes the Shelter Feeding Program possible. Here’s how you can get involved:
- Donate Pet Food: Drop off unopened bags or cans of pet food at our Adoption Center.
- Make a Financial Contribution: Your donations help us transport, store, and distribute food to our partners.
- Spread the Word: Share our mission with friends and family to help us grow our impact.
How You Qualify
To become a partner in our Shelter Feeding Program, organizations must meet the following criteria:
- Nonprofit Status: Your organization must be a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
- Focus on Animal Welfare: You must operate as a shelter, rescue, or other animal welfare group serving homeless pets.
- Location: Your organization should be located in northern Nevada or surrounding rural areas.
- Demonstrated Need: You must show that donated food will directly support homeless pets in your care.

By taking part in your employer’s matching gift program, you’re helping us provide critical resources like medical care, vaccinations, food, and loving homes for pets in our community. It’s a win-win for you, your company, and the animals we serve.
