Reading with Rescues

Read to Homeless Dogs

Twice a month, we partner with a local literary specialist, The Reading Gal, for Reading with Rescues! Participants in this special program get a full tour of our Adoption Center and have the kennels all to themselves for a reading session with our dogs. All ages are welcome!

Reading with Rescues is a wonderful opportunity for our community to engage with our animals, give kids a chance to sharpen their reading skills in front of a nonjudgmental audience, and provide much-needed one-on-one time with our pups (you won’t believe how much it calms them!).

Are you a member of a community group that would like to learn more about our organization and read to our homeless pets? You can email the Community Engagement and Volunteer Manager at nayla@spcanevada.org about setting up a private tour and informal reading with rescues session!

Jackie's Community Cats: Program Participation Application

Help cats in your community.

Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) is a humane program aimed at helping our community to spay/neuter, vaccinate, and care for unowned community cats.
We will be offering trap rentals to approved community volunteers and colony caretakers. SPCA of Northern Nevada will pay for approved expenses including vaccination, sterilization, and receiving an ear tip to signify that they have undergone sterilization surgery. These services will be done by our veterinary clinic partner Options veterinary Care.
We will instruct you on how to bring your approved cats in for surgery and assist you with scheduling once you fill out the form below.
By trapping, altering, and returning cats to their homes, community volunteers and colony caretakers will help stabilize cat populations, educate caretakers, and address community concerns regarding local cat populations.
