Thrift Store Loss Prevention & Retail Associate

Our Thrift Team supports our mission by raising money for homeless pets, hosting events to raise awareness about our adoptable animals, and spreading humane education in our community.

Do you love meeting new people and working as part of a team? Are you friendly and proactive while also confident at de-escalation and deterring theft? SPCA of Northern Nevada is looking for a customer-focused Retail & Loss Prevention Associate to help create a safe and welcoming shopping environment. This is a hybrid role combining customer service, retail sales support, and loss prevention/security responsibilities.

Our thrift store is located at 75 E. Moana Lane. You must be able to work 40 hours per week, be on your feet for long hours, and willing to work weekends.

Key Responsibilities:

Loss Prevention & Safety:

  • Patrol the sales floor and store perimeter regularly
  • Monitor for theft, shoplifting, and safety risks
  • Use surveillance equipment when appropriate
  • Respond calmly and professionally according to store protocols to de-escalate disruptive behavior
  • Communicate with team members via walkie-talkie to stay updated on store activity
  • Work with law enforcement when needed and complete incident reports
  • Enforce store policies, such as our no-bag policy

Customer Service & Sales Support:

  • Greet and assist customers on the sales floor
  • Answer customer questions and provide information about products and donations
  • Keep the sales floor tidy and easy-to-shop
  • Assist with merchandising, stocking, and maintaining store cleanliness
  • Help customers with fitting rooms and return clothes to their designated racks
  • Operate the cash register when needed

What We’re Looking For:

  • Loss prevention experience is required for this role
  • Retail and customer service experience is a must
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable addressing challenging situations with professionalism and compassion
  • Team-oriented and willing to help wherever needed
  • Emotional maturity with good judgment and ability to regulate emotions in stressful situations
  • Able to stand and walk for extended periods during your shift

Salary: $18-$20 DOE
