Thanks to all of our supporters 2018 has been an incredible year! We’ve adopted more than 2,000 homeless pets into loving homes, which is a new record for the SPCA of Northern Nevada. That’s over 2,000 lives saved and lots of love spread throughout our community.
Early next year we will publish our online community impact report highlighting all that we accomplished together in 2018. We will also share the exciting program expansions and improvements we’re planning for 2019!
Thank you for all who supported our Giving Tuesday campaign! Thanks to you we received the entire $20,000 match, plus we raised an additional $27,000 for a total of $47,000 in one day. These life-saving gifts allow us to provide many necessities, including rural rescue transports, medical care, spay/neuter and specialty surgeries, and enrichment items for our dogs and cats. It also allows us to continue offering key training for our staff and volunteers so we can provide our animals with great care while we find them loving homes.
I’ve met so many amazing pets this year, but two really stand out because they have forever stolen a piece of my heart: Sysco and Lucy. Sysco is a perfect example of how it takes a village of caring, dedicated people to rescue and rehabilitate a dog until we find them a loving home. Sysco is a large, sweet, mixed breed who prefers to be with people all the time. He had ACL surgery and was able to recover in the home of a loving foster. Once back at our Adoption Center our staff and volunteers continued his knee rehabilitation, and spent lots of time keeping him healthy and happy until we found his match. I loved spending quiet time with him in his kennel just petting him and encouraging him to be calm. It was wonderful watching him go to a loving home where he has formed a special bond with his new human brother who has been diagnosed with autism.
Lucy is one of the sweetest cats I’ve ever met! She is calm and adores loving attention. Lucy is a diabetic 15-year-old who has been overlooked by so many people. Please come meet this lovable senior who deserves a home! Her adoption fee has been waived and her insulin will be paid for the rest of her life.
I wish you all a Happy New Year and encourage you to come visit our Adoption Center. Thank you all for your continued support—together we will continue to save lives!
