I Heart Love!

I heart love! February is the month of love…and spay/neuter awareness month. You see, despite the power of love, it’s important to keep the natural consequences of amore in check; especially for our furry friends. Last year, the SPCA of Northern Nevada performed 1,922 sterilization surgeries, which prevented thousands of unwanted animals from entering the shelter system. This year we’re rolling out a voucher program with our veterinarian partners to make an even bigger impact.

It’s Hip to Snyp!

Our Adoption Center oozes with love! Every time an animal is adopted here at the SPCA, our adoption staff announces it over the intercom so we can all share in the excitement. Few things radiate joyful love like watching a family walk out of our Adoption Center with a new furry family member. Another favorite experience of mine since joining this fabulous team is getting to meet some of our alumni. Yesterday Roxy and her adoptive family dropped in to say hi and show us how much Roxy is thriving in her new loving home…her ear to ear grin said it all. There is an undeniable ability of companion animals to bring people together and elevate our view of the world and we’re so grateful to be a part of that unifying force.

So much love radiates from our Adoption Center that a young man was inspired to propose to the love of his life here on Saturday! Be sure to read the whole adorable story.

We’re also grateful that world-renowned animal behavioral expert and autism spokesperson Temple Grandin will be speaking about understanding animal behavior at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the Silver Legacy Resort Casino thanks to the Autism Coalition of Nevada along with the University of Nevada Reno’s College of Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources department.

Ms. Grandin is a world-renowned animal behavioral and autism expert. She is also so much more than a simple one-sentence description. The bond she shares with animals is extraordinary in a most unique way. I highly recommend her book, Animals In Translation, as well as The Loving Push. Now, get out there and share the love!
