When Trinity first arrived at SPCA of Northern Nevada, she was just six months old and already facing a challenge that would test her strength.

Our rural partners in Elko reached out for help after finding a young kitten with a painful leg injury and an abscess on her belly. She couldn’t put any weight on the leg, but despite the pain, she greeted everyone with soft purrs and trusting eyes.

After a careful evaluation, our medical team determined the best path forward was a full leg amputation. It would relieve her pain and give her the freedom to live comfortably again.

Surgery day came, and Trinity faced it with the same quiet courage she’d shown from the start. The procedure went smoothly, and within days, she began to show everyone what resilience really looks like. She was ready to balance, play, and climb again, this time pain-free.

So far this year, around 30 pets have come to SPCA-NN specifically for advanced medical care, each receiving the expert treatment and compassion they needed to heal and begin again.

Her recovery was quick, her spirit unshakable, and before long, she was ready for her next adventure.

Now known as Doja, she’s living her best life—playful, confident, and maybe just a bit bossy. She rules her home with sass and affection, keeping her much bigger canine sister (another SPCA-NN alum!) in line.

Doja’s story shows that with compassion, expert care, and community support, even the smallest pets can make the biggest comebacks.

Because of donors like you, pets like Doja receive the care, comfort, and second chances they deserve.

Stories like Trinity’s are why we need your financial support to continue helping homeless pets receive the care and love they deserve.

“The story of Trinity highlights one of the greatest challenges pets and people face today: access to veterinary care. Across the country—and especially in Nevada, which has one of the largest ‘veterinary deserts’ in the U.S.—many families struggle to find affordable, timely care for their pets.
When our rural partners reached out about Trinity, we immediately approved her transport to SPCA-NN so she could get the care she desperately needed. X-rays revealed old fractures that had never healed properly, and amputation was her only path to a pain-free life.
Our veterinary team provided her with compassionate, stress-free care, and within days, Trinity was walking comfortably again—ready to start her next chapter.
“This is one of my favorite parts of being a shelter veterinarian. I love being part of an animal’s new beginning. There is something so magical about the impact one “yes” can make for an animal and the people who choose to adopt and love them. The years of hard work and dedication it took to become a veterinarian now feel like a gift I’m able to give to others. There is a great sense of purpose that comes with it all.”
