When Button first arrived at SPCA of Northern Nevada, she was just six months old and barely five pounds, tiny, fragile, and full of heart.
She came from an overcrowded home along with her mom, sister, and presumed aunt. All were underweight and confused, but Button’s sweetness shone through from the very start. She was gentle, brave, and always reaching up to be held.

While her family members quickly found homes, Button’s journey took a little longer. During her medical exam, our team discovered an injury to her eye that threatened her vision.
Button’s gentle spirit sparked determination in everyone around her.
This year, SPCA-NN has stepped in to assist with roughly 10 overcrowding cases, giving dozens of vulnerable pets the safety, space, and second chance they deserve.
Our veterinary team immediately went to work. Using blood from her mom and another healthy dog in our care, they created a specialized healing serum that saved Button’s eye. It was a creative, compassionate solution—a medical first for us and a powerful reminder of what donor support makes possible.

Through every check-up, Button wagged her tail, offered kisses, and nuzzled herself into the arms of whoever held her. Even when nervous, she remained brave, trusting our team completely and soaking up every bit of comfort and love.
When her treatment finished, her eye had healed beautifully. And on the very same day she was ready for adoption, Button met her perfect match.
Stories like Button’s are why we need your financial support to continue helping homeless pets receive the care and love they deserve.
Her adopter scooped her up and instantly knew: this tiny dog had already stolen her heart!
Today, Button’s story continues to inspire smiles. Now known as Bug, she spends her days snuggling in one of her many cozy beds, playing with her doggy sister Nikki, and wearing her favorite sweaters.

She loves dark, cozy spaces, meeting new people, and playing her favorite “come find me” game, which consists of running off to another room, crying for attention, then spinning in circles of pure joy when she’s found.
Bug might be small, but her story is a big reminder of what happens when compassion, creativity, and community come together.
