Three years ago, a shy, scared dog named Yoshi was rescued by our team from a rural shelter 300 miles away in Elko, Nevada.
Little did any of us know that Yoshi – later named Dixie Rose by her wonderful guardian – would go on to become an incredible certified service animal, helping to guide and assist her adopter following a serious car accident.
“I had been in a horrific car accident, and my doctor suggested I find a service dog. But when my insurance wouldn’t cover the cost, a friend recommended I go to the SPCA of Northern Nevada […] When I saw her in her kennel, I called Yoshi’s name and she came running to me. Yoshi has come a long way since we brought her to the SPCA of Northern Nevada in hopes of finding her a loving home. Thanks to donations from generous supporters like you, she found so much more than that.
Today, Dixie Rose continues to act as a certified service dog for her guardian (and best friend), Shelby, who still has long-term visual and nervous system effects from the car accident.
