Regina is an adorable, rambunctious, 1 year old husky mix. She’s loving, healthy, vibrant and brings joy to everyone that she meets. But that didn’t keep her off the euthanasia list in the rural county from which we rescued her. When we first met Regina, she was two days away from being euthanized.
No one wants to kill pets. But that’s the reality we are still fighting against. Many rural animal control agencies have too many unwanted pets and don’t have the space, resources, or adoption audience they need in order to save them. That’s where we come in. The SPCA was established as a no-kill animal rescue organization almost 20 years ago. We’ve always been no-kill and we always will be. Without our partnerships, animals like Regina might not have a second chance.
Luckily, you donate to us. You allow us to go to the rural shelters, rescue the pets that are almost out of time and chances, and give these angels the love, care, and dedication they deserve. Because of you, we were able to take Regina (and many others), and bring them to our no-kill adoption facility, give them vaccinations, microchips, and spay/neuter surgeries, and find them loving homes. Regina was adopted within hours of being available from the SPCA. Sometimes it doesn’t happen that quickly and the animals we save from rural animal controls take months to find homes, but no matter how long it takes, you allow them to live. You give them the chance they need by supporting us, and we can’t thank you enough.
This #GivingTuesday, please donate. Make it possible for even more pets like Regina, who are healthy, loving, and deserving of a second chance, find a loving home instead of being put down.
