This position supports SPCA-NN by raising awareness about our adoptable pets, engaging with the community around the services we offer the community, and promoting our brand to gain support for our mission!

SPCA-NN Communications Coordinator (BARKeting Coordinator) 

Are you a creative storyteller passionate about saving the lives of pets? Do you love designing on Canva, creating fun and uplifting social media content, and engaging with our community at events? The SPCA of Northern Nevada is looking for a Communications Coordinator to join our team and support our mission to save and improve the lives of pets and people.

This role is perfect for an animal advocate who thrives in a creative, energetic environment and enjoys using their skills to create positive change. If you have a knack for design, an eye for visual storytelling, and a flair for fun, we want to hear from you!

What You’ll Do:

  • Branding: Uphold SPCA-NN’s brand guidelines, ensuring consistency in voice, tone, and visual representation across all materials.
  • Content Creation: Assist in creating engaging and optimized photo, video, and written content for social media, email campaigns, and print materials. Design flyers, brochures, and event marketing materials. Use OpenAI to draft and refine copy. Collaborate on a content calendar and project management platform to ensure consistent messaging.
  • Social Media: Help manage SPCA-NN’s organic social media presence, creating fun, uplifting, and engaging posts that resonate with our audience. Support the creation of Instagram Reels, TikToks,YouTube videos and other short and long-form video content.
  • Email Marketing: Assist in developing and executing email marketing campaigns.
  • Event Support: Help plan, promote, and execute events that support SPCA-NN’s mission. This includes creating event materials and coordinating logistics.
  • Public Relations: Take live pets to weekly 6 a.m.* “Pet of the Week” live TV news segments. Assist with other public-facing media opportunities. 
    • *Reliable early-morning transportation and a willingness to transport pets in a personal vehicle (crates are available) is required.
  • Website: Make updates to our website, SPCANevada.org, as directed by the Communications Manager.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree or experience in journalism/marketing preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in content creation for social media, especially short-form video editing for Reels and TikTok.
  • Excellent graphic design skills. Experience using Canva.
  • Experience using ChatGPT and AI tools.
  • Willingness to speak on-camera for news and social media.
  • Excellent project management skills, with ability to self-direct, anticipate roadblocks, meet deadlines, and prioritize among competing goals, while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Sense of humor and a knack for engaging audiences with appropriate, funny content.
  • Commitment to animal welfare and comfort interacting with cats and dogs of varying sizes and temperaments.
  • High emotional maturity and ability to regulate emotions, manage relationships, and co-create an environment where team members feel valued and psychologically safe. 
  • Flexible schedule with willingness to work some weekends for special events.
  • English/Spanish bilingual would be a huge plus!

  • $40-43,000 annually to start with opportunities for increased compensation after six months based on our internal processes including performance reviews, available budget, etc.
