Adoption Counselor

Our Animal Adoption Counselors are integral members of the SPCA of Northern Nevada team who directly support our lifesaving mission! We are looking for an exceptional communicator who is positive, community-oriented, fun-loving, and motivated to match adopters with their next best friend. If you are passionate about saving the lives of homeless pets, and relentless about success, then this is the role for you!

What You’ll Do:

· Provide exceptional customer service to each community member who walks through our doors.

· Represent SPCA-NN and animal welfare in a professional, compassionate, and kind manner.

· Make loving matches between our adoptable pets and our customers through a curious conversation-based adoptions process.

· Take photos of our adoptable pets.

· Perform administrative tasks such as data entry, scanning, tracking and returning phone calls.

· Assist our animal care department with daily animal husbandry and enrichment.

· We will train you on how to counsel the public and adopters according to the “Adopters Welcome” philosophy, joyfully answer phones, complete intake/outcome paperwork, track data like a boss, foster teamwork, enrich our animals lives (so much fun), promote donations, and provide the best service to our community.

What You’ll Bring:

· Consistent and genuinely positive attitude. You’re outgoing, cordial, and you love to help people!

· Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. You must be able to communicate effectively with our stakeholders, especially in stressful and emotional situations.

· Strong emotional maturity with the ability to regulate emotions, manage relationships, and co-create an environment where team members feel valued and psychologically safe.

· Ability to manage time and prioritize effectively; you thrive on bringing order to chaos!

· Passion for animals and a drive to learn fact-based knowledge about pets. Comfort around cats and dogs of varying sizes and temperaments.

· Reliability and punctuality; our team and animals depend on you!

· Attention to detail. Our animals rely on us to follow specific protocols exactly for their health and safety.

· Spanish/English bilingual would be a HUGE plus!
