Animal Caregiver for SPCA of Northern Nevada


Requirements:

· Positive, optimistic person who loves pets AND people!

· Passion for animals, cleaning, feeding and giving daily doses of love and enrichment.

· Ability to handle dogs and cats confidently. We will teach you Fear Free handling techniques, etc.

· You must be a strong team player and you must be able to work independently.

· You must be able to prioritize and manage time efficiently, and thrive on bringing order to chaos.

· Attention to detail is critical for this position as our animals depend on you to follow very specific protocols exactly.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills. We require a cover letter with your resume…what a great opportunity to show off your written communication skills!

· You must be able to communicate effectively and specifically with co-workers, volunteers and the public.

· If you are a people person we want you! If youre outgoing, cordial and you love to help people.we really, really want you!

· Understanding of animal behavior and health care is a plus.

· You must be able to work holidays and weekends because our animals require daily care and enrichment.

· Must be punctual and reliable because our animals are depending on you!

· Able to lift and carry 50 pounds unassisted. This is a physically demanding job with lots of motion throughout the day.

Programs Team Member

We are looking for a Programs Team Member to join our lifesaving team!

Job Description

The Programs Team Member is responsible for our main public programs.

Help Desk

Programs team members are responsible for assisting the public with general inquiries, information, scheduling needed vaccine/spay appointments, behavior and retention resources and the surrender process.

Responsibilities include:

· Return and track calls/emails within 24 hours of receiving them.

· Provide resources and assist the public with behavior resources and financial resources.

· Assist public with locating the correct agency to assist with their needs i.e. wildlife rehabilitators, Washoe County Regional Animal Services.

· Assist with the surrender process by providing surrender packets to people interested in surrendering, and then transferring completed paperwork to the Animal Care Manager.

· Track and follow up on Maddie’s Pet Assistant surveys for adopted animals.

· Work with manager and teammates to update and create resources.

 

Low Cost Vaccine Clinic

Programs team members are responsible for running our low cost vaccination clinic. This important service allows us to support pet owners in our community and offer low cost vaccines.

Responsibilities include:

· Assist clients with scheduling appointments, rescheduling, and cancelling.

· Print, prepare, and file all vaccine clinic paperwork.

· Checking in clients for their appointments, confirming personal information of pets and owners, and assisting with selection of age/species appropriate vaccines.

· Checking out clients using our Clinic HQ software, updating client’s profile to reflect vaccines, current weight, and personal information.

· Printing proof of vaccines after appointment and when clients request.

· Return calls/emails pertaining to vaccination program.

· Train volunteers to assist with check-in and greeting.

Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic (SNYPS)

Programs team members are responsible for running our low cost spay/neuter clinics. This important service allows us to support pet owners in our community and offer low cost spay/neuters.

Responsibilities include:

· Assist clients with scheduling appointments, rescheduling, and cancelling.

· Print, prepare, and file all SNYPS paperwork.

· Placing reminder calls 2 days prior to appointment to confirm needed paperwork, vaccines, and appointment information.

· Checking in clients for their appointments, confirming personal information of pets and owners, and assisting with selection of age/species appropriate vaccines.

· Checking out clients using our Clinic HQ software, updating client’s profile to reflect vaccines, current weight, and personal information.

· Return calls/emails pertaining to spay/neuter program.


Required skills and experience:

· Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

· Strong interpersonal skills—outgoing, patient, professional, and able to get along well with variety of people. Ability to show compassion and empathize with people.

· Very strong written and verbal skills, including the ability to communicate skillfully and effectively with a culturally diverse staff, volunteers and community in a professional, pleasant, respectful, courteous and tactful manner at all times.

· Ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a fast paced environment under sometimes tight deadlines.

· Strong problem solving skills—focusing on finding solutions to problems and challenges.

· Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office (especially Word, Excel & Outlook). Comfortable learning and using online information systems.

· Affection for animals, concern for their welfare and a willingness to accommodate animals in the work place.

· Willingness to provide routine medical care to animals including vaccinations, administration of medication and basic health checks.

· Enthusiastic support of the no-kill philosophy.

· Ability and initiative to work with minimal supervision and direction.

· Maturity, good judgment and a professional personal appearance.

· Ability to read, write and understand English.

We prefer Spanish/English bilingual speakers!

· Familiarity with animals, knowledge of animal care and behavior, including the care of neonatal kittens and other special needs animals. Experience working with animal welfare organizations is preferred.

• Comfort and ability to work with animals of unknown disposition and those who may exhibit medical and other problems, as well as aggressive tendencies.

• Valid Nevada state drivers license with no record of convictions.

Physical Requirements:

· Physical ability to walk and/or stand on your feet throughout a normal workday required.

· Physical ability to engage in repetitive motions of legs, arms, and hands, to hear, to see, to move animals and goods.

· Employee is required to be able to use both hands simultaneously, able to lift up to 50 lbs., and may handle overly enthusiastic canines weighing over 100 pounds.

Educational Requirements: High school graduation minimum.

Non-Exempt Position: Non-exempt, part time position—must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. If hired, able to present a clean driving report from the Department of Motor Vehicles.

There is no minimum period of employment guaranteed or implied by acceptance of an employment offer. A 90-day probation period is implemented for all staff.

Availability: SPCANN is open seven days a week, as animals need daily care. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule.

Job Scope: This position performs duties independently with minimal supervision, operating from specific and definite directions and instructions. Decisions are of a routine nature made within prescribed operating guidelines, policies, and procedures. Mistakes or errors may result in work stoppage, loss of business, poor customer relations, and or damage to property or harm to the animals, all of which can have negative implications for the organization.
