A message from our Executive Director
2026 continues to remind us that lifesaving work rarely goes exactly according to plan. Staffing shortages, rescue partners at capacity, and a growing number of pets and people in need have challenged us to adapt, collaborate, and find new ways forward. Through it all, SPCA of Northern Nevada remains committed to being a resource our community can count on.
In the first half of this year, we found loving homes for more than 800 pets while continuing to welcome others from rural shelters and rescue partners throughout our region. But as we often say, we are so much more than an Adoption Center. Thousands of pet parents have also turned to us for affordable vaccines, microchips, spay/neuter services, medical assistance, and support through our Pet Helpline. Every one of these services helps strengthen the bond between pets and the people who love them — and can help keep pets where they belong: at home.
Keeping pet care affordable remains one of our greatest priorities. This year, we’re building on that commitment with Fix Them All!, a new spay/neuter initiative focused on expanding access to affordable surgery and addressing pet overpopulation at its source. It’s an ambitious goal, but one we believe is possible through strong partnerships and a community willing to work together.
That spirit of collaboration can be seen throughout everything we do. Our rescue partners help us reach pets beyond our own walls. Veterinary partners help expand access to care. Foster families create space for more pets in need. And our volunteers have already given more than 11,000 hours this year to support our mission. When resources are stretched, working together isn’t simply helpful — it’s essential.
There will always be challenges we can’t predict, but our purpose remains the same: to help pets find loving homes, keep pets with the people who love them, and make essential care more accessible throughout our community. Thank you to our donors, volunteers, adopters, partners, and supporters for continuing to make this work possible. We still have plenty of 2026 ahead of us, and I can’t wait to see what we accomplish together.

P.S. Affordable is still our real middle name!
