A message from our Executive Director

2022 presented several challenges and illustrated the long-term impact the pandemic continues to have on the shelter overpopulation crisis. And yet, SPCA of Northern Nevada (SPCA-NN) successfully served our community’s pets and people despite the challenges!

We had more pet adoptions this year than last, and our return rate dropped, which means we are creating successful, loving matches. Additionally, we conducted the most dog behavior modifications ever! Through positive commitment, we built new shelter partnerships, strengthened existing ones, led multiple field service teams to help overcrowding situations, and saved more lives.

We also saw our highest foster pet placements EVER with 575…wow! Since our foster program primarily places puppies and kittens, it had to grow to handle the significant (nationwide) increase of unwanted litters resulting from the pandemic’s impact on affordable spay/neuter clinics.

On our community program side, we saw unbelievable growth in the number of pets and people served through Todd’s Medical Fund from 90 in 2021 to 445 in 2022! There has been a significant increase in pet guardians needing financial assistance for unexpected veterinarian expenses. Imagine how heartbreaking it would be to make the devastating decision to euthanize a beloved pet simply because you can’t afford the necessary medical treatment. This critical program can only continue with our community’s financial support – so thank you for donating today!

Our outstanding Pawspital Team continued to provide top-level, affordable community veterinarian services: 3,805 pets were sterilized, and 10,660 pets vaccinated! Our community relies on these programs to reduce unwanted litters and keep their beloved pets healthy. On top of these programs, our Pawspital Team provided 43 specialty surgeries, and loving medical care to our pets waiting for homes. We also paid for 57 dental vouchers issued through our partner vet clinics!

Teamwork makes the dream work, and none of this would be possible without your continued support. Thanks to you and our amazing community, we are giving pets (and their people) the resources they deserve!
