Giving Tuesday (GT) is a social movement that began in response to the consumerism of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping blitz. While everyone loves a bargain, GT is our chance to remember the spirit of giving that’s at the heart of the holiday season.
It falls on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving – December 3, 2019, and is a day to make a major impact through charitable giving. For the SPCA of Northern Nevada, it’s the single best day of gifts that keeps our life-saving operation going throughout the rest of the year.
Our goal this year is to raise funds for a new pet transport vehicle. As many of our you know, we rescue the vast majority of our pets from overcrowded, under-resourced shelters in rural Nevada. Our most important resource for these trips, aside from our hardworking team, is our pet transport vehicle, which enables us to safely and comfortably transport cats and dogs long distances.
Over the summer, during a transport from Las Vegas, our vehicle broke down. Our incredible team, however, was able to safely transport all 43 kittens back to Reno using a rental van.
Because the safety of our team and our pets is our top priority, we’ve decided the time has come to invest in a new pet transport vehicle. We hope that you will find it in your hearts this Giving Tuesday to help us fulfill this goal so that we can continue saving the lives of homeless pets in our community!
